Task Manager is a very common and popular functionality that we often use for ending no longer in use or “Not Responding” applications, to check and the monitor performance, and to do many such miscellaneous system associated works. We can easily open Task Manager by one of the following:
- Press Control+Alt+Delete key combination on the keyboard. You’ll be prompted with a screen where you can now press Task Manager. If you did this by mistake, you can press “Cancel” to exit.
- If you press Control+Shift+Escape, it will directly open the Task Manager for you.
- Just right-click on the Taskbar, and open Task Manager.
- Open the Start search feature on Windows by clicking on the lens icon on the taskbar, and then type “taskmgr” and press Enter.

What to do if your Task Manager does not open?
In case the Task Manager is not responding, opening or disabled by administrator in Windows 11/10, you’ll need to fix it so that you can easily open the Task Manager. Let us check these scenarios one by one.
How To Fix Task Manager Disabled By Administrator
In case the Task Manager is not opening due to being Disabled By the Administrator, you will get a message of the same when you try to open it. So you can login as administrator and then enable the Task Manager, or contact your admin.
How To Fix Task Manager Not Opening
If the Task Manager is still not opening, you can try the following:
- Press Windows+R to launch the Run Window.
- Type “regedit” and press enter.
- Now execute.

- Now, if you find DisableTaskMgr registry key, you must set it to 0 or else delete this key.
Another Method:
- Else, open Windows Search and execute “gpedit.msc” to open Group Policy.
- Go to the location: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options > Remove Task Manager.
- Right-click it > Edit > Select Not Configured > Click Apply-OK-Exit.
- Restart the system, your problem must have been resolved.
In case the problem is still not fixed, or in case you want to bypass the above steps, you can first check the below mentioned cautions. However, remember that you might have to return to above resolutions, if the below fail to work.
- It might be the Malware or some Antivirus that is interfering with the Task Manager functionality. So, run a deep scan, or uninstall the Antivirus temporarily to see if this resolves the issue.
- Some recent software installation might be the culprit. So try rolling back to the last version that was working well, or try uninstalling the last installed software to see if the problem has been solved.
- Another work around is Try Remove Restrictions Tool or Re-Enable to re-enable your Task Manager.
In case all of the above fails to help you solve this problem of Task Manager not working, or opening, you might need to reset your Windows 11/10. Hope this helps.
